Portrait Art Challenge Number 5

Postby NickBeall on Sat Jan 30, 2010 11:28 am

This is the next challenge for students on the forum. I have chosen this photo specifically to challenge you all to look at hair texture. There are a lot of textures going on in this photograph, so the challenge is as well as creating a likeness which is important, to find ways to capture the texture of his hair and beard in your chosen medium.

Take particular notice of the direction of hair, where the hollows, shadows and highlights are. When drawing the beard and moustache pay particular attention to the play of light and see how the beard can actually define the shape of his jaw.

Happy drawing and painting! icon_cat

Hi Roger,

As long as you can see the picture, you can right click on it and save it to your computer. Once you have done this you will be able to print it in your usual way. If you have any questions please do post below.

Take a look in the people portraits ref section as well as there are lots of new photos for my students to use.
