Science Fiction & Fantasy Encyclopedia

Postby ranunkel on Mon Jan 18, 2010 10:05 am

I was wondering if we could create a guide to the creatures and people of Science Fiction, folklore and fantasy?
I think it would make it interesting to join this forum if we had some information and inspiration for creating S&F art.

We could build it slowly. People could add information, whenever they have done some research on their our own.

Yes I would love to :)

Should we put it all in one thread?
Perhaps we could keep it alphabetic? Or what do you think?

Im not sure how we can make it alphabetical in one thread, unless we make lots of different threads for the creatures, what do you think? I don't mind how many threads there are, we could keep them all sickies to keep them at the top. Alternatively have them in one thread mixed. Let me know what you feel will work best. icon_flower

I think we should make lots of different threads for the creatures then. If we create one long thread it won't be easy to navigate.

I think it's importuned to make sure that the images, we upload to the encyclopaedia
will stay there. A link to an image on a blog, or a website could go missing in the long term.

We could create a gallery on http://photobucket.com/com for this project. Only problem is that all the users in the forum should be able to upload to the gallery. However, we could hand out the pass word to people who want to upload creatures for the encyclopaedia. It would give an a bit more administration! It is also importuned that the images we use are public domain and not copyright protected in any way. We don't want to get into trouble. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page has a great database with public domain images.

Hi Marianne,

Great idea! Would you like to set up the photobucket account? If you then have control over the username and password, if anyone would like to add anything to the encyclopaedia they can then pm either you or myself to join.

Yes I think its important to make sure the images arent copyrighted, but we could have a sticky at the top of each one explaining how to be involved and the basis of it. What do you think?

I am sorry it took me so long to get back to you on this project, but I am having some problems with my PC. I am using my husband's at this point.

Yes I will go and creat a user profile on Photobucket for the project :)

I think it's a good idea to make some sticky rules :)

I have created the first post for the Encyclopedia about Angels. Please take a look and let me know if it is enough information. You could write a book on this subject, but I think we should keep it fairly short.

This is wonderful! I wonder if here we can write a single post of a list of the posts ie
angles - viewtopic.php?f=13&t=704
Alien - viewtopic.php?f=13&t=705
along with a link to each one so that we can use this as a base to find each one quickly? What do you think? We could start it below. I think if you start it, you will be able to edit your own post and then I can edit it too. icon_fish

Hi Marianne,

The posts are going great! I have made the information ones stickes so they stay at the top and then people will be able to get to the index of them easier. You'll have to let your tutor know to take a look on here to see what you have collated.
